objective: Design a trustworthy platform to center patients throughout their Emergency room journey, keeping them informed along the way.
key problems: patient-doctor disconnect, general patient confusion, inaccessible/unused patient records
transition the emergency department away from a machine meant to cycle patients in and out towards a paragon of patient-centered care by providing staff the tools to better inform patients, and the patients a space to be heard.
patients guided by a set of pamphlets and slides, which can be connected to a hospital portal for information management.
the cornerstone of totem is a patient-centered app allowing hospitals to provide both general and specialized information about the emergency room journey, allowing for a more informed patient and reduced friction in patient-staff interactions.
the patient is guided through four key steps (Modules) mirroring their emergency room experience, during which they can access articles on relevant and upcoming procedures, as well as general medical advice, if approved by a doctor.
Navigation and AI chat features are available, if activated by the hospital.
the journey doesn't end when the patient leaves the emergency room; totem provides detailed post-visit information as well as an inactive module providing out-of-hospital information for viewing visit details and finding care.
